Golden McKenzie Story-Roe was born to the union of Harry McKenzie
and Jessie Bowie McKenzie in Anderson County, Palestine, Texas.
She attended school in the Palestine Independent School District and
graduated under the principalship of the late Reverend H.T Wise.
She earned her BA Degree from Western University at Kansas City,
Kansas, later she earned her Masters Degree at North Carolina
State of Durham, North Carolina. She was librarian at Lincoln and
Story High School for a number of years. She married Professor
A.M. Story who preceded her in death. She later married Mr.
Waverly Roe of Kansas City, Kansas. She departed this life on
February 26, 1994 at St Paul's Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She is
survived by: her husband of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Mrs.
Silverleen Young of Tyler, Texas; three devoted nieces, Sandra Goree-Jacques,
Dallas, Texas, Wanda Goree-Jackson, Palestine, Texas and Barbara
Pate of Columbus, Ohio; one nephew, Charles Eilhu Goree of
Palestine; two great nieces, Lisa Jacques-Roberson of Dallas and
Wanda C. Goree of Palestine; one great nephew, Richard E. Jackson of
Palestine; one great great nephew, Ryan Alexander Roberson of
Dallas; two great nieces, Pamela Pate and Patricia Pate of Columbus,
Ohio; four foster daughters, Mrs. Helen Scott of Jacksonville,
Florida, Eddie Lee Parrish Ingram of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Ida Mae
Gilstrip of Greenville, Texas and Jean McMorris of Houston, Texas;
many other relatives and friends. |
Services for Golden McKenzie Story Roe were at 1 p.m. today at Davis
Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy G. Duncan officiating. Burial
was at Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Roe died Saturday at St. Paul
Hospital in Dallas. She was born in Palestine to Harry and Jessie
Bowie McKenzie. She graduated from Palestine schools and earned a
bachelor of arts degree from Western University in Kansas City,
Kan., and a masters of science degree from North Carolina State
University in Durham, N.C. She taught school in Wichita Falls
and Massey Lake, and was librarian at Lincoln High and A.M. Story
High schools before retiring. She was a member of Pilgrim Rest
Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband,
Professor A.M. Story; and three sisters, Virginia Goree, Jesse Davis
and Lucille Henderson. Mrs. Roe is survived by her husband,
Waverly Roe of Dallas; and sister, Silverleen Young of Tyler. |
